05:04:44<Mr_You>hi
06:33:04<Lemmih>Hey
17:28:34<Mr_You>if I'm wanting to learn a functional language for the purpose of distributed computing, GPGPU access via C, and Web Services (and we might as well through in their client side desktop/web interfaces) should I focus on Haskell only or also pickup Lisp and O-Caml?
17:28:52<Mr_You>s/through/throw/
17:31:02<Mr_You>for new development, I prefer not to move between languages because of the minor syntax differences.
17:31:25<Mr_You>(if anyone wakes up in #happs at anytime)
17:32:39<Lemmih>Why do you ask in #happs?
17:33:01<Mr_You>my mistake, but yeah not much chat going on in here sooo... ;-)
17:33:38<Lemmih>I don't see how your question relates to HAppS.
17:33:45<Mr_You>it doesn't.
17:34:44<Mr_You>anyone writing Web Services with HAPPS?
17:36:24<Lemmih>I'm not aware of any non-toy HAppS applications.
17:37:18<Mr_You>oh really? why is that?
17:37:47<Lemmih>HAppS is basically a research project.
17:37:53<Mr_You>ah
17:38:30<Mr_You>the website doesn't give that impression.
17:40:02<Lemmih>Yeah, the website could be a lot better.
17:40:44<Mr_You>though it seems like an incomplete sentence: "HAppS provides you with all the major server components you need to build high quality. ".. that seems quite the opposite of research project.
17:41:18<Mr_You>is Haskell still considered for research only? They claim folks are using it in production and there are solutions built on it.
17:41:44<Lemmih>Haskell is a very modern language.
17:42:29<Mr_You>modern and production worthy are two different things :-P
17:43:05<Mr_You>I guess I'll start following/checking HAPPS development.
18:06:52<MarcWeber>Mr_You: I think that you should have a look at haskell.org (eg -> jobs) and the mailinglist haskellcafe (archives) Simon has called for peopele using haskell in industry recently to give some talks.
18:13:00<Mr_You>cool thanks
18:17:20<Mr_You>has pass.net closed shop?
