12:01:30<MarcWeber>Is there a way to limit memory usage per user when using happs-state? I mean does a class exists approximately determining memory usage of a gadt?
12:58:51<MarcWeber>Is someone interested in writing kind of css absraction?
12:59:01<MarcWeber>The goal should be write CSS once and it should work everywhere.
12:59:18<Saizan_>everywhere?
12:59:24<Saizan_>every browser?
12:59:38<MarcWeber>In all most used browsers .. Of course elinks will be a problem :))
13:00:03<MarcWeber>I'm talking about Opera, ff, ie6,7,8, safari.
13:00:15<MarcWeber>eg ie6 doesn't support e > f selector properly
13:00:42<MarcWeber>One could write a library omitting those declarations but attaching JS-code manually applying those settings ondomready or such
13:01:13<MarcWeber>Saizan_: Have you seen my last note about vxml ?
13:01:27<Saizan_>i don't think so
13:01:47<MarcWeber>If you want to give vxml another try I've enhanced it again. You can do vxmlSeq_ $ map (li . text) [ 1 .. 10 ] after switching to "weak" validation :)
13:01:51<MarcWeber> I think its close to take off now..
13:02:44<MarcWeber>At least I think I can start using it. That's why I start caring about CSS
13:03:22<Saizan_>ACTION installs git
13:03:26<MarcWeber>The best thing to do would be write kind of DSL for CSS returning CSS and JavaScript to force the formatting you really want
13:03:52<MarcWeber>Just wondering if someone else would like to join?
13:09:13<mightybyte>MarcWeber: I'm interested. In my current project I'm just using Blueprint.
13:10:00<mightybyte>Although I've taken the philosophy that the programmer will generate the html and the designer will determine the look in CSS.
13:10:36<mightybyte>...so I'm intending to leave that job to them
13:10:41<MarcWeber>What do you mean by Blueprint?
13:11:02<mightybyte>http://blueprintcss.org
13:11:13<MarcWeber>mightybyte: I don't have a designer.. So I have to do things myself. And I don't want to do things twice (one time for IE6 and once for all others)
13:11:19<mightybyte>It's a CSS framework that makes things cross-browser for you.
13:11:39<MarcWeber>It kills opera :)
13:12:27<mightybyte>http://blueflavor.com/blog/2007/oct/24/blueprint-css-101/
13:12:43<mightybyte>Blueprint kills opera?
13:12:54<MarcWeber>This time not.
13:13:01<ben_h>hi folks
13:13:03<ben_h><-- happs first timer
13:13:16<MarcWeber>Hi ben_h!
13:14:35<mightybyte>MarcWeber: I don't have a designer either, so I am interested in your idea. But I'm trying to design things so I can hand them off to a designer later if I wish.
13:14:35<ben_h>how's it going :)
13:15:01<ben_h>i'm getting this problem running ghc via sp: http://groups.google.com/group/HAppS/browse_thread/thread/975bc7c85cafb761
13:15:11<ben_h>there were a few other errors in the output too. anyone seen this before?
13:15:45<ben_h>there were a few "darcs: failed to read patch" entries as sp installed the deps.
13:16:02<MarcWeber>What is sp?
13:16:14<mightybyte>ben_h: I'd suggest getting cabal-install and installing hslogger with "cabal install hslogger"
13:16:35<ben_h>MarcWeber: http://searchpath.org/
13:16:42<ben_h>mightybyte: i'll check it out now, thanks
13:17:09<MarcWeber>mightybyte: Still reading docs about blueprintcss.. Still don't know how it tries to solve problems..
13:19:38<MarcWeber>mightybyte: So what is blueprintcss? A set of cool css defaults?
13:19:51<MarcWeber>And if I want to customize them I still have to hack the ie6 special files?
13:20:06<mightybyte>MarcWeber: It resets everything and builds up reasonable styles in a sane (and fairly crossbrowser) manner.
13:20:21<ben_h>yeah blueprint looks pretty good
13:20:45<MarcWeber>mightybyte But if I want to change them I still have to write a hack for ie6 I guess. Having sane defaults is nice though
13:21:11<MarcWeber>But let me read the docs first
13:21:54<mightybyte>Well, I'm not at all competent with CSS, but Blueprint provides a decent amount of functionality for styling and laying things out yourself.
13:23:00<mightybyte>http://speckyboy.com/2008/03/28/top-12-css-frameworks-and-how-to-understand-them/
13:24:07<mightybyte>Here's another one http://devkick.com/lab/tripoli/
13:24:34<mightybyte>Tripoli doesn't call itself a framework. It says it's a standard.
13:24:56<MarcWeber>:) I can't keep up with reading..
13:25:44<mightybyte>Anyway, the point is that if you're going to abstract CSS in Haskell, you really ought to know about what these frameworks do to accomplish something similar.
13:31:06<MarcWeber>Is this blueprint lib only for having a custom grid and fliingi that with content? (still cloning)
13:31:48<mightybyte>No. It resets the typography too
13:47:14<MarcWeber>http://sandbox.pocoo.org/clevercss/ is already a dsl :)
13:55:58<MarcWeber>mightybyte: I've had a look at some of them. Most seem to provide some generators generating CSS for some forms or default layouts?
13:56:13<MarcWeber>But I think haskell combinatiors can do the same much better
13:56:39<MarcWeber>Why? You don't have to go to that css pages, fill in your defaults again just to change a small value
13:56:59<MarcWeber>But they call can definitely be used to lookup how things should be done
13:57:08<mightybyte>Right
13:57:20<mightybyte>They've already addressed the cross-browser problem
13:57:31<mightybyte>So you might as well make use of those ideas
13:59:06<MarcWeber>There is no easy way to to make automatic screenshots from various browsers (except using selenium ?), is there?
13:59:22<mightybyte>No idea
14:01:35<MarcWeber>resetting styles is done to make thingk look the same everywhere, right? That's the overall purpose. So that if you don't set styles for li you won't be suprised looking at it in another browser having different defaults
14:01:53<mightybyte>That's my understanding.
14:02:41<mightybyte>They provide that, and then they also provide predefined styles that you can use as a toolbox to get the look you want.
14:03:53<MarcWeber>There is a service making screenshots ! http://browsershots.org/
